Calling someone an inspiration is truly one of the biggest passive aggressive back-handed compliments a person can give. Saying this to someone means you have made some assumptions and hold some specific prejudices.
“You are so inspiring.” Says I can’t believe you were able to accomplish anything since you are: so stupid, so disabled, so much less than me, so much less than someone who should be doing this…whatever “this” is.
“You are so inspiring.” Says I’m not going to support you but I’m going to steal you idea and make sure you don’t get any credit or success from your hard work.
“You are so inspiring.” Says Poor unfortunate you being so imperfect and below me but still fighting to be as good as me.
I don’t do my work to inspire you. I do my work because it is my work and is the right thing to do. If you are inspired by someone doing what is right all that proves is you are dishonest and untrustworthy.
